What are the Requirements for Express Entry Program?
The Government of Canada implemented the Express Entry Program in 2015. It aims is to target the skilled and experienced individuals of different nationalities to the country for a better economy. It has three major classes, called, Federal Skilled Worker Class (FSWC), Federal Skilled Trades Class (FSTP), and Canadian experience class (CEC). So, every year hundreds and thousands of immigrants of different nationalities apply for Canada PR visa via these Express Entry programs.
All the qualified profiles submit with the governing authorities like IRCC (immigration refugees and Citizenship Canada) for assessment and evaluation of applications. The concerned authorities examine and evaluate all the application forms in the Express entry pool, based on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. The major selection factors for CRS are Economic status, Education, Skills, Work experience, Language abilities and Adaptability. Then, the score number determines the ranking of each application against the other within the pool. Once the ranking of applications has done, IRCC releases the Express Entry Draws with a minimum CRS score in almost every 15 days. The qualified entries receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) from Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC). However, remember, to be the selected entries for ITA, applications must be at the topmost number in Express Entry pool.
It’s just a brief of Express entry program’s requirement and application process. Now let’s shift the focus to the eligibility criteria for sub-categories of Express Entry program.
Requirements for Federal Skilled Worker Class:
As the name implies, it welcomes skilled workers with relevant foreign experience. The following is the list of the minimum requirements for the program.
Skilled work experience:
The Canadian government has classified the jobs into three groups under National Job Classification (NOC), including:
- Skilled Type 0/ management jobs
- Skilled Type A/ Professional jobs
- Skilled Type B/Technical jobs and skilled trades
So, by saying skilled work experience, we mean that an applicant needs to have Skilled work experience in at least any one of three NOC job groups. It comprises of some general guidelines like:
- An applicant must have skilled work experience in the occupation (primary occupation), which he/she would like to pursue in Canada after immigration.
- An applicant needs to submit the work experience only for paid jobs within the past ten years; it means that if he/she has done any unpaid internship or volunteer work, the authorities would not count them at all.
He/she needs to submit the work experience of at least one year of continuous work or 1560 hours per year or 30 hours per week; it means he/she needs to work either in one full time paid job for one year (30 hours per week * 12 = 1560 hours for 1 year); or, Part-time job for 15 hours per week for 24 months, equivalent to 1560 hours; or, Full time paid jobs for 30 hours per week in more than one job for 12 months to fulfill 1560 hours in one year.
Proficiency in English or French is a must for individuals who wish to have the status of permanent residency. For that, he/she needs to submit the scorecard of language proficiency test like IELTS, TEF and more. The minimum requirement is the Canadian language benchmark (CLB) 7 in each language abilities including listening, writing, reading and speaking. However, make sure that the test score should not be more than two years old from the date of application.
If an applicant has completed schooling from Canada, then he/she needs to submit the certificate/diploma/degree.
If an applicant has done education from the foreign institution, then he/she needs to submit educational credential assessment report including degree, certificate or diploma from a recognized institution or training centre, showing that his/her education level is equivalent to degrees, diploma of the Canadian system.
Proof of funds:
If an immigrant wants to settle in Canada, then he/she needs to submit official letters as proof of funds, approved from any recognized financial institution or bank. Moreover, it must be printed on institute letterhead and contains information like an applicant’s name, address, contact details, bank details, loan details, latest six months transaction and current account balance.
Requirements for Federal Skilled Trade Class:
There is not as such minimum requirement for Federal Skilled Trades Class; however, the higher the level of education, the higher would be CRS score.
A candidate meets the minimum score of CLB 5 for speaking and listening, while it’s CLB 4 for reading and writing.
Requirements for Canadian Experience Class:
Candidate must have at least 12 months of working experience in the NOC job groups including skill type O, A and B in the past three years before processing to the application process. Working hour’s criteria remain the same as previous federal skilled worker class.
There is no minimum eligibility criterion for applications under the Canadian Experience Class; however, a better level of education is helpful in increasing the CRS score in express entry pool.
