National Occupation List (NOC)
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) use the National Occupational Classification (NOC) system in which applicants are assigned a four-digit code and job description for every occupation in the Canadian labour market. It is a nationally recognized and standardized system to evaluate work experience of an applicant.
If an applicant wants to apply for Canada PR visa as a skilled migrant, then the occupation must be Skill Type 0, A or B as per the National Occupational Classification (NOC).
- Skill Type 0 (zero): These jobs are management jobs, like:
- restaurant managers
- mine managers
- shore captains (fishing)
- Skill Level A: professional jobs that usually call for a degree from a university, like:
- Skill Level B:The category includes technical jobs and skilled trades that usually call for a college diploma or training as an apprentice, like:
- Skill Level C:This level includes intermediate jobs that usually call for high school and/or job-specific training, like:
- industrial butchers
- long-haul truck drivers
- food and beverage servers
- Skill Level D: These jobs include labour jobs that usually give on-the-job training, like:
- fruit pickers
- cleaning staff
- oilfield worker
How to migrate to Canada as a skilled immigrant?
If you want to migrate to Canada as a skilled migrant then your past job must be skill type 0, or level A or B to qualify Express Entry.

A candidate with skill level C or D can also migrate to Canada. They may be able to come under Provincial nominee program with any skill level. How to find your job title, code and skill type?
There are various job titles for a candidate. So if you want to find a suitable job title that suits you, you must follow the following steps:
Step 1: First, enter the job title in the Filter items field. As you will type words, you will be suggested related words to your search
Step 2: Secondly, click on the NOC title and check and make sure that the main duties listed match to the duties of your job and if it does not matches then you should search for a different job title that match your job.
Step 3: Then you need to write the Numeric code for example 0632
Step 4: Then write the NOC title of your job.
Step 5: At last, you are required to write the skill, level or type.
